Hot Topic - 'Bullying!!!'
The country is no stranger to bullying, this has always been a problem in many schools and the struggle to counter this problem has always been evident. However it seems that recent reports show that bullying is becoming increasingly wide spread and aggressive in nature meaning that more people are forced to suffer the often devastating effects of bullies in predominantly more violent and shocking incidents. Were as name calling, physical abuse, intimidation, and torment have always been some of the most common factors that contribute towards bullying; it seems the new generation of bullies are often resorting to physical violence in an attempt to show their authority. This means that many people affected by bullying are simply too scared to attend school and in the most extreme cases have even resorted to suicide to end the misery caused by bullies.
Bullying may often emerge from something as trivial as a person’s weight, religion or sexuality, but can sometimes last for several years. It can not only cause physical scars but also long-term physiological effects that may require a person to undertake years of counselling. Bullying of any shape or form is not only wrong but also completely unnecessary. Although it is unlikely to ever be stamped out completely, it is important that schools and the community work together to counter this problem and ensure that pupils at any school can attend without the fear of being bullied.
