Property and Neighborhood Profile

The majority of housing in Bourne is detached, although the town has a variety of other housing styles. Many people in the area are home owners who enjoy a good quality of life. As a result of this crime in the town tends to be relatively sparse with petty crime representing the biggest portion of reported crime in the area. Due to the large number of family houses available in Bourne and the selection of good schools, many households have children. Many of these children benefit from a good quality of education and tend to enjoy a good lifestyle due to the large number of youth activities available in the area. Although high profile jobs in the town are limited, many residents are on a relatively high income due to commuting to near-by towns and cities where a large number of well-paid jobs are available. A larger income means people tend to have more disposable income which is catered for by a good range of quality restaurants and bars in the town.

Many people in Bourne enjoy a good lifestyle due to the many outdoor activities and leisure facilities that are available in the area such as golf, walking, cycling, swimming, bird watching and visits to places of interest such as stately homes. Generally speaking people tend to live longer due to good health and prospects.

The area houses people from all walks of life but as a majority most residents tend to be families, young professionals and retired people, with retired people representing a large portion of the population in the town.

Much of the local authority housing that exists in the town has been purchased by former tenants, some of which has been sold on for a substantial profit. This has caused a shortage in this type of property over recent years and developers have responded to this by building more affordable housing in the area over the past few years, helping first time buyers and keyworkers who have previously been priced out of the housing market in Bourne.

Many previously neglected areas and Brownfield sites in the town have been redeveloped to provide a large selection of new housing, meaning that the population of Bourne has grown significantly in recent years and is likely to continue to increase over the next decade - this is clearly causing more of a strain on local services and there is an increasing need to improve and expand services as a result of this.

House prices in Bourne are generally higher then in other towns and cities in the county, however house prices are still relatively cheaper then in some parts of England. Many people from more southern parts of England are moving to the area as a result of this to take advantage of cheaper property prices.
